Epitalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) is a synthetic tetrapeptide identified as the active component of epithalamin, a bovine pineal gland extract. It is one of the most studied peptides in aging research, with published data spanning telomerase activation, pineal gland regulation, and lifespan extension.
In human fibroblast cell cultures, Epitalon induced expression of the telomerase catalytic subunit, activated telomerase enzymatic activity, and increased telomere length by an average of 33.3%. In animal models, Epitalon extended median lifespan by 12-24% in multiple mouse and rat studies. It also restored circadian rhythms of melatonin and cortisol production in aged rhesus monkeys and inhibited spontaneous tumour development.
