L-Carnitine (LCLT) is a naturally occurring amino acid derivative essential for fatty acid transport into mitochondria. Published research showed approximately 50% increase in skeletal muscle androgen receptor expression when combined with resistance exercise. Additional studies demonstrated reduced muscle damage, enhanced recovery, and improved metabolic stress markers.

Research Overview

About this compound

What does the research say?

L-Carnitine plays a critical role in energy metabolism by transporting long-chain fatty acids across the mitochondrial membrane for beta-oxidation. Without adequate carnitine, fatty acids cannot enter the mitochondria and cannot be used as fuel.

Research by Kraemer et al. at the University of Connecticut demonstrated that L-Carnitine L-Tartrate (LCLT) supplementation upregulated androgen receptor (AR) content in skeletal muscle at rest. When combined with resistance exercise and post-exercise nutrition, the effect was amplified to approximately 50% increase in AR expression. More available androgen receptors means circulating testosterone has more targets to bind to, potentially enhancing the anabolic signalling cascade.

Separately, LCLT reduced exercise-induced muscle tissue damage (assessed via MRI scans), decreased markers of metabolic stress, and increased IGFBP-3 concentrations, suggesting improved recovery and partitioning of the IGF-1 system.

Why does quality matter with L-Carnitine?

L-Carnitine exists in both L- and D- forms, but only the L-form is biologically active. The tartrate salt (LCLT) is the form used in published clinical research. Products using cheaper forms or racemic mixtures will not replicate the published results.

At Camo Chem, every batch is tested by an independent 3rd party laboratory. We publish the full Certificate of Analysis for every batch, and you can verify the results directly with the lab. We do not self-certify. Ever.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

L-Carnitine is a naturally occurring amino acid derivative essential for transporting long-chain fatty acids into mitochondria for energy production. The L-Tartrate form (LCLT) is the most studied form in exercise science. It is sold exclusively as a research compound.

Research by Kraemer et al. at the University of Connecticut showed that LCLT supplementation upregulated androgen receptor expression in skeletal muscle by approximately 50% when combined with resistance exercise and post-exercise nutrition. More androgen receptors means more binding sites for circulating testosterone.

Every batch meets a minimum of 98% purity as verified by HPLC. Testing is performed by an independent 3rd party laboratory.

No. L-Carnitine is supplied as a ready-to-use liquid solution at 500 mg/ml concentration.

Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and light sources. Keep the bottle sealed.
